I do appreciate your posting this info. So I'll add some. I had hydro-locked my '91 NA, I got trapped in high water, other cars were driving through ok so I gave it a shot and lost the engine. No water in the car though. The car sat for 2 mons w/o an engine. This gave time for the 13 contacts of the ignition harness plug to corrode. The mechanic plugged them up however and the car ran fine for 6 mons. It began to cut out and stumble and finally die. Even after cleaning and using anti corrosion grease the problem persisted until the people at Z1 Motorsports in Carrollton, Ga said I needed to cut the harness plugs off and solder the connections. No problems since.

What a great website this is. I am carson from Hong Kong. I own a 1989 dett (MT) two seater, it is an imported from japan.
I have just finished rebuliding the engine, and now have to deal with erratic idle problem. I am so happy that I have discovered your website. It is full of useful information.
By the way, it is very diffcult to find a good garage to repair the Z32 in hong kong. The last wo engine i had was so badly done by those cowboy garage. So this time i decided to do it myself in my leisure time.

Hey, if by any chance you come to Hong Kong for what ever reason, do let me know, we can meet up and let me buy you a drink for all the hard work you have done :)

Thank you very much.

Hello, I have an idle problem. It is incosistent, most of the time it idles too high ~1600rpm, but sometimes as low as almost 600rpm. It does not fluctuate, but as I drive around it will idle at a differnt speed almost everytime I stop. It is quite annoying, I am going to try your articles. --Brad

Hey, your site is great. I am gonna do the pcv upgrade this weekend. I think it may help on my z, as i have been told by "those in my dust" that i blow a lil bit of blue smoke when coming out of a corner that i went into a little hard. Other than that, I havent had a single issue with oil burning, so i think this may be the culprit. During everyday driving it has never been an issue, but i figure what the heck since its only the cost of a lunch.

thanks,
Tom

Maciej
First time I've been to your site, although I know it indirectly through your articles, "Curing Erratic Idle, Part 1 & 2". I had to refer another TT.net member to it as they kept posting about idle problems, and I don't believe your article is listed in the FAQ section or TECH section. I couldn't find it nonetheless.

Great site. The high idle tech page was great. I have another problem that I'm hoping you'll be able to help me with.

My '90 2-seater stalls only after a few minutes of running. This problem occurred only after I removed the battery to get to the PCV value. After it stalls, the battery is essentially dead. Once I charge the battery, the engine starts just fine. Also, when I remove the negative cable from the battery while the engine is running, the car immediately stalls. This leads me to believe that the alternator is a goner or something in the charging circuit is fried. Where's a good place to start, and can you refer me to a practical repair guide for this problem?

Hi there! I just bought a 93 NA CV and I am IN LOVE with it. I did however find that after driving it for a while it would have a rough idle (in drive [automatic btw] while stopped). I have been searching for HOURS trying to find some help on the subject, and it was really kinda sparse out there. Then I read a post where sombody recommended your site(sorry don't remember who it was). I want you to know that your input/advice on fixing the idle problem was THE BEST information I have found anywhere. I have bookmarked your site for future reference. Thank you so very much for taking the time to help all of us be more informed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent site, very informative and well put together.Your Tech section is brilliant, really gives good clear advice.
My local dealer has told me that my Zx requires a new engine(due to poor starting and cutting out when put into drive), because of low compression tests. But after reading your tech advice I'm now going to take off the head and investigate myself. Hopefully I'll only need to replace the headgasket.
Thanks for a great site,Dave

Witaj Maciek!!!

I like your site and the tech will come in handy.
My 91 300ZX Twin Turbo has a problem. Say I drive my car for 20 minutes then turn it off for about 5-10 minutes. Now I restart the engine and my car will hesitate and then the hesitation will go away after a few minutes and run normal. I noticed this problem after installing an air intake and exhaust with X-pipe.
Changed plugs, Fuel filter, Cleaned throttle bodys.
This may sound stupid but do you think me not upgradeing my stock ECU to JWT ECU has something to do with this problem? Maybe my intake is getting to much air. Thankyou for reading

Just wondering if the rubber coolant hoses around the engine (E.G. hoses under the plenum, turbo coolant lines etc)can be changed with motor still in the car, maybe with the plenum off? hey whats up. I have a 92NA and I am an active member of twinturbo.net and zcar.com. someone on TT.net posted your site as an excellent source for a tech article on finding the source of an erratic idle. I checked it out and I have been looking through your site for hours now. Your "status" section is fascinating and your pictures with the engine out and putting the engine in were very entertaining. Your tech articles are also very detailed and helpful. I wish I found this site a long time ago.
Sites like this make owning a Z tolerable, as I'm sure you'll agree with me that owning this beautiful car can get quite frustating sometimes.
thanks for an awesome Z site

hey whats up.

Nice site. Just looking around. I'm old so I no longer work, ---- except on my Z. Going to pull the engine, rebuilt it, install some PE 1420 turbo's, --- then after I put some miles on the car I will go to Nevada (USA) where you can drive as fast as you want. Best wishes to you.. Tom

I found your tech article on erratic idle very usefull.
I intend to have go at fixing this common problem
that seems to plague the Z. I'm not much of a
mechanic, I didn't really know where some of
these air flow control devices are located, but
I will have an insightfull attempt. Thanks, keep
up the good work!

Hi Maciej,

Great site, some very helpfull information for zed owners like myself. Found the Excel calculation sheet for speed/tyre size/RPM etc very good, helped me enormously in knowing if my car was "normal" keep up the good work,
